As a feeder school for Westwood Community High School, a top 50 Academic school in the province and proud Advanced Placement school, we felt that a focus on Pre-Advanced Placement (Pre-AP) at École McTavish Junior High School was important.
Pre-Advanced Placement at École McTavish Junior High School is a program we are proud to create and shape with the best in mind for all of our students. The program will focus on having our students learn to think laterally between curriculum and subject matter and also search for their areas of passion in learning. The students will be given an opportunity to do one or two Pre-AP projects (project-based learning) throughout the year and then present their findings in a fair atmosphere in the school. These projects will cross curricular lines and show students how, for example, English and Math curriculum’s work together.
We believe at École McTavish Junior High School that if we set the bar high, all students will strive to reach it. In that belief, all students will have the opportunity to showcase their knowledge of areas of interest to them that fit within the grades and outcomes of the school during our Pre-AP projects. The projects will focus in on what the student is interested in and be supported by the in class work from the core subject areas.
The goal of the program is to have students find the subjects that they are passionate about. This will aid those that are interested in continuing with Advanced Placement with choosing courses at Westwood Community High School.
