News Release: FMPSD and FMCSD Announce Staggered Entry for the New School Year

(Fort McMurray, AB, August 17, 2020) Fort McMurray Public and Catholic Schools are working diligently to prepare for the 2020/21 school year. Both divisions are announcing a staggered entry for all grades due to COVID measures. This will decrease the daily number of people in school buildings during the first week of school; and will allow for new safety/hygiene routines and practices to be learned in the first week.
This staggered entry schedule will see only certain grades in a school each day during the first week. All students will return to school together on September 8th.
The schedule for all schools is as follows:
Dates Grades in Attendance
Monday, August 31st Grades 1 and 7
Tuesday, September 1st Grades 2, 8, and 9
Wednesday, September 2nd Grades 3, 4, 10, and 11
Thursday, September 3rd Grades 5, 6, and 12
Our youngest ECDP/EEP/Kindergarten students have traditionally started the school year with a staggered entry. There will be no changes to their staggered entry for the 2020/21 school year. Their first day will be no earlier than September 1st. (Teachers will contact families with exact dates by August 27th.)
We appreciate this may lead to more planning for families in regards to child care during the first week of school. We ask for your grace, patience, and compassion as we all work together to make this upcoming school year as safe as possible.
