Grade 8 & 11 Counsellor

Phone: 780-790-1100

Since 2006 Kristel Rensmaag has called Fort McMurray home.  Prior to moving here to find employment as a teacher, Kristel lived on Vancouver Island for 6 years and grew up in Maple Ridge, BC. She loves traveling (she’s been to 15 countries!), playing volleyball and slo-pitch, coaching, the outdoors, and spending time with family and friends. She has two beautiful daughters and a handsome labradoodle.

She was an active member of Pride YMM for 7 years and helped organize the first family friendly pride event in Fort McMurray.  She also helps facilitate the high school GSA.

She currently holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Victoria, Bachelor of Education from Vancouver Island University and a Master of Education from Nipissing University.  Her favorite thing about counseling is building connections with individual students and helping them navigate through their emotions to build capacity within themselves to overcome whatever obstacles they may be facing or could face in the future.

Let's go Marauders!!

Division Notice

ATA Strike Commencing on Monday; School Closures Starting Oct 6th

As a result of the Alberta Teachers Association (ATA) rejecting a proposed deal from the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA), all FMPSD schools will be closed to students starting Monday, October 6, 2025, unless a new agreement is reached or strike action is otherwise averted. Additionally, all yellow school bus routes will be suspended for the duration of the strike.

In light of the ongoing strike, all extracurricular activities, including sports, clubs, and after-school programs, will be temporarily suspended.

As there is no definitive end date for the strike, FMPSD is unable to provide a timeline for when normal operations will resume. We will continue to provide timely updates as we receive them from the Ministry of Education and Child Care.
