French Immersion

The French Immersion/Francophone program at École McTavish Public High School is a continuation of the amazing work done at École Dickinsfield School at the elementary grades.

Please note that students who graduate from École McTavish will be given a Bilingual Certificate of Excellence at graduation—not a French Immersion Diploma—however, students must have completed the following:

  • French Language Arts 10/20/30
  • A minimum of one other 30-level course in French (most students complete Études Sociales)

*Only students who graduate from a Francophone School (i.e., École Boréale) will receive a French Immersion diploma

Here is a link from Alberta Education on French Immersion. Also, this is a link to some material en Francais about the Immersion program.

Alberta Education has also produced a great booklet on how parents can help their children in the French program.
