Hello!  I am Kelly Haldane and I am very excited to  be teaching at Ecole McTavish!  I have been here in Fort McMurray since 2014 (so much for that five year plan)! As an army brat I have lived across Canada with my parents and younger brother.  After completing my high school education in Pembroke, Ontario I attended Nipissing University in North Bay where I earned my Bachelor of Arts honours degree with a double major in English and history, followed by a Bachelor of Education. After I completed my degree I travelled to Kenya and then Southampton, England to teach.  I have also taught in an Inuit village in Northern Quebec, a private school in Mississauga, Ontario and an alternative school in Edmonton before I began my career at FMPSD. When I’m not teaching I can be found spending time with my son and my partner.  We love to get outdoors hiking, snowboarding and running the Birchwood Trails.  I also enjoy reading, travelling and learning new things!  I look forward to being a part of your journey as you grow and learn at McTavish!

Division Notice

ATA Strike Commencing on Monday; School Closures Starting Oct 6th

As a result of the Alberta Teachers Association (ATA) rejecting a proposed deal from the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA), all FMPSD schools will be closed to students starting Monday, October 6, 2025, unless a new agreement is reached or strike action is otherwise averted. Additionally, all yellow school bus routes will be suspended for the duration of the strike.

In light of the ongoing strike, all extracurricular activities, including sports, clubs, and after-school programs, will be temporarily suspended.

As there is no definitive end date for the strike, FMPSD is unable to provide a timeline for when normal operations will resume. We will continue to provide timely updates as we receive them from the Ministry of Education and Child Care.
