Math & Science

My name is Godwin (Uche) Okereafor. I was born in Lagos, Nigeria but spent seven impactful years (2014 – 2020) of my life in Johannesburg, South Africa. To give you some brief information about myself, I possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from the Federal University of Technology Owerri, Imo State Nigeria, a Bachelor of Education degree with majors in Natural and Physical Science from the University of South Africa, a Master's and Doctorate degrees in Metallurgical Engineering with a specialization in Environmental Remediation from the University of Johannesburg, South Africa.

Teaching is my life's passion. I have worked extensively with people of different ages and have undertaken roles including Math and Science teacher for grades 8 - 10 with the Gauteng Department of Education, Johannesburg - South Africa, Lecturing with specialization in Metallurgical Engineering modules at the prestigious University of Johannesburg, Student Mentor and Graduate Advisor - Golden Key International Honour Society, Community Disability Support Worker (CDSW) and advocate for the vulnerable persons within communities in Edmonton and as a Project Coordinator for the University of Alberta Queen Elizabeth Scholar program.

In October 2020, I became a proud Albertan. Having worked on both the academic and pastoral sides of education, I am looking forward to contributing my skills towards developing young minds and future leaders as a Math/Science Teacher. Since joining the Marauder family at Ecole McTavish in September of 2021, I have been excited about the work culture.

As a teacher, I strongly support the views of Robert John Meehan "Each Child is Unique, Not Only Capable of Learning but Also Capable of Succeeding." In my classroom, every student is important, and accommodated through innovative, interactive, and inclusive approaches. I believe that students' success begins with making them comfortable in the classroom while collaborating with parents/guardians.
