High School English and Social Studies

Hello McTavish students & families!

My name is Ms. Morgan and I am a High School English and Social Studies teacher here at École McTavish Public High School.

I grew up in a small town on Cape Breton Island and moved to the Fort McMurray area in 2017 to begin my teaching career. I earned my Bachelor of Arts with a Major in History and Minors in English, Geography & Women’s & Gender Studies from Mount Allison University in 2014. Additionally, I completed a Bachelor of Education in Secondary English and Social Studies in 2017 from Mount Saint Vincent University. Finally, I have recently earned my Masters of Education in Inclusive Education through Saint Francis Xavier University in 2021. I am passionate about inclusive education and making sure my classroom is a safe, positive, and fun space to learn!

I spent 5 years teaching in Anzac, AB where I taught Grade 7-12 ELA along with some high school Social Studies. Additionally I taught courses like Forensics 25 & 35, Creative Writing, Podcast Production, CALM 20, and Life Skills which gives me an interdisciplinary approach to my teaching.

I am so excited to be joining the Marauder team! This year I’ll be helping as an Assistant Coach of the Varsity Girls Volleyball team - so make sure to come out and watch a few games this year!

When I’m not teaching you can find me hiking the trails of Fort McMurray with my boyfriend and our rescue pups, cooking up a storm in the kitchen, or curling up with a good book.

I can’t wait to meet and work with you this year! If you ever have any questions please reach out to me at hilary.morgan@fmpsd.ab.ca
