My name is Kim Gartenburg and I have been a teacher with FMPSD since 2018. I am currently the Learning Assistant Coordinator for grades 11 and 12 and I also teach High School English. I graduated from the University of Ottawa with a Bachelor of Arts (English), and took my Bachelor of Education (secondary) at Acadia University.

Being a special education teacher brings me immense joy because it allows me to celebrate the unique abilities and achievements of each student. I take great satisfaction in adapting my teaching strategies to fit diverse learning styles and needs, knowing that my efforts can unlock their potential. The daily challenges keep me engaged and inspire me to continuously seek new ways to support and motivate my students. Ultimately, seeing my students grow, gain confidence, and reach their goals fills me with a profound sense of purpose and accomplishment.

I love teaching English for many reasons. It is incredibly rewarding to help students acquire English skills that can open doors to new opportunities. I enjoy the creativity involved in lesson planning and the challenge of finding innovative ways to engage my students and see them make progress and succeed.

Outside of work, you will often find me cheering on my children at their extracurricular activities. I am a huge fan of their curling, basketball and dance!  As a family we love to travel, play games and simply enjoy time together. If I am not busy with family time, you will often find me reading, enjoying a movie (with a bowl of popcorn) or walking on the trails with our dog, Toffee.

Division Notice

ATA Strike Commencing on Monday; School Closures Starting Oct 6th

As a result of the Alberta Teachers Association (ATA) rejecting a proposed deal from the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA), all FMPSD schools will be closed to students starting Monday, October 6, 2025, unless a new agreement is reached or strike action is otherwise averted. Additionally, all yellow school bus routes will be suspended for the duration of the strike.

In light of the ongoing strike, all extracurricular activities, including sports, clubs, and after-school programs, will be temporarily suspended.

As there is no definitive end date for the strike, FMPSD is unable to provide a timeline for when normal operations will resume. We will continue to provide timely updates as we receive them from the Ministry of Education and Child Care.
