Joanne Williams-Hancock
Grade 9 & 10 LAC
I’m a proud long-term resident of Fort McMurray, where I was raised and continue to contribute to the community I love. My husband, Cody, is a dedicated firefighter and paramedic, and together we have an 8-year-old daughter, Elizabeth, and a 9-year-old German Shepherd named Stella. Volunteering is a big part of my life; I coach ringette and serve as a Girl Guides leader, helping young girls develop confidence and teamwork.
Academically, I hold a Bachelor of Science (Honors) in Microbiology and Genetics (2003) and a Bachelor of Education (Honors) in Secondary Education with majors in Biology, Chemistry, and Spanish (2005) from the University of Alberta. I also completed an M.Ed in Neuroscience and Inclusive Education from the University of Lethbridge in 2014.
My career has been diverse and fulfilling, with roles as a high school science teacher, where I’ve taught Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Math, as well as positions as a Learning Coach and inclusive education facilitator, similar to the LAC role that I will be filling this year. In addition to my work in schools, I’m also an Assistant Professor with the University of Alberta, where I teach in the Department of Educational Psychology.
I love to read, make stuff with wool, plan pranks, and laugh—a lot. I'm always eager to learn, create something new, and enjoy the lighter moments in life.
