Social Studies

My name is Debbie Mackintosh, and I am excited to join Ecole McTavish School as a high school social studies teacher for the 2024-25 school year! I hold a Bachelor of Arts in English and Anthropology, and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Victoria. I am continuing my education towards a master's degree in  Educational Leadership. I have been a teacher for over 20 years, with experience from K-12. Recently, I taught grade 9 and high school social studies at Holy Trinity for seven years.

I moved to Fort McMurray in 2017 from the Okanagan area in British Columbia. My husband Trent and I have four adult children aged 19-29. We are also incredibly blessed to have a two-year-old grandson named Greyson, and another grandson arriving in October! We enjoy walking on the beautiful trails around our home with our older lab, Ollie, travelling and visiting our extended family and cottage in the Okanagan. We love living in Fort McMurray and all the opportunities it brings our family!

I look forward to joining the Marauder family and working with the students, staff, parents, and community members involved with École McTavish School. Please email me at debbie.mackintosh@fmpsd.ab.ca if you have any questions or concerns.

Division Notice

ATA Strike Commencing on Monday; School Closures Starting Oct 6th

As a result of the Alberta Teachers Association (ATA) rejecting a proposed deal from the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA), all FMPSD schools will be closed to students starting Monday, October 6, 2025, unless a new agreement is reached or strike action is otherwise averted. Additionally, all yellow school bus routes will be suspended for the duration of the strike.

In light of the ongoing strike, all extracurricular activities, including sports, clubs, and after-school programs, will be temporarily suspended.

As there is no definitive end date for the strike, FMPSD is unable to provide a timeline for when normal operations will resume. We will continue to provide timely updates as we receive them from the Ministry of Education and Child Care.
