Math & Science

Hi there!
My name is Maddie Tennant, and I could be more thrilled to join the École McTavish community here in Fort McMurray. Originally from Parrsboro, Nova Scotia—a tight knit town of about 1200 residents—I bring with me a strong sense of community and warmth to my teaching approach.

I attended St. Francis Xavier University (StFX) where I completed my undergraduate degree in Business Administration (BBA), graduating in 2022. I enjoyed my time at StFX so much that I decided to continue my academic journey there and completed my Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) in 2024. My time at StFX has not only equipped me with a strong educational foundation but has also nurtured my passion for teaching and
learning.
Outside of the classroom, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, cooking and trying out new recipes, travelling, and actively participating in community events, as well as volunteering for extracurricular activities and local initiatives. I am incredibly excited to get to know and work with the staff and students at École McTavish and immerse myself in the Fort McMurray community. Building strong relationships and creating memorable
learning experiences together is what excites me most about this new chapter.

Here’s to a fantastic journey ahead!

Division Notice

ATA Strike Commencing on Monday; School Closures Starting Oct 6th

As a result of the Alberta Teachers Association (ATA) rejecting a proposed deal from the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA), all FMPSD schools will be closed to students starting Monday, October 6, 2025, unless a new agreement is reached or strike action is otherwise averted. Additionally, all yellow school bus routes will be suspended for the duration of the strike.

In light of the ongoing strike, all extracurricular activities, including sports, clubs, and after-school programs, will be temporarily suspended.

As there is no definitive end date for the strike, FMPSD is unable to provide a timeline for when normal operations will resume. We will continue to provide timely updates as we receive them from the Ministry of Education and Child Care.
