English & Social Studies

Hello! My name is Cassandra Teal, and I am thrilled to be spending my year teaching at McTavish. After moving from Nova scotia, I spent two years as a substitute in the division, and found myself gravitating more and more to McTavish because of its wonderful faculty and school culture. I am pleased to have finally joined the community as a teacher and to serve its students.

As far as interests go, I have many. I love reading anything I can get my hands on and creative writing in my spare time. I love working out and going for walks with my lovely husband. However, I am absolutely obsessed with both coffee and cats, and I will not apologize for either.

I hold a Master’s degree in English Literature and I graduated with my Bachelor of Education from Mount Saint Vincent University. As my specialities are in English and Social Studies, I am excited to be teaching Junior High Humanities this year. More than anything, I am passionate about helping students discover their love for reading and for exploring history. I look forward to another rewarding year with my students!

Division Notice

ATA Strike Commencing on Monday; School Closures Starting Oct 6th

As a result of the Alberta Teachers Association (ATA) rejecting a proposed deal from the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA), all FMPSD schools will be closed to students starting Monday, October 6, 2025, unless a new agreement is reached or strike action is otherwise averted. Additionally, all yellow school bus routes will be suspended for the duration of the strike.

In light of the ongoing strike, all extracurricular activities, including sports, clubs, and after-school programs, will be temporarily suspended.

As there is no definitive end date for the strike, FMPSD is unable to provide a timeline for when normal operations will resume. We will continue to provide timely updates as we receive them from the Ministry of Education and Child Care.
