Vice Principal (Gr. 8)

Phone: 780-790-1100

My name is Denise Morris, and I am honoured to be joining École McTavish School as the Grade 8 Vice Principal for the 2025–26 school year.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Cape Breton University and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Maine. I also completed my Master of Education in Administration and Policy at St. Francis Xavier University.

Over the past 20 years, I have had the privilege of working with students from Kindergarten through Grade 12 as both a teacher and Vice Principal. In addition, I served as the FMPSD Literacy Coordinator for four years—a role that allowed me to support classrooms across the division and further nurture my passion for literacy development. I am committed to supporting the academic, social, and emotional growth of every student and believe strongly in fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.

Outside of school, I enjoy exploring the outdoors with my two dogs, Rex and Roxie—whether it’s walking the Birchwood Trails here in Fort McMurray or visiting the beautiful beaches of Nova Scotia.

I am excited for the year ahead and look forward to working alongside students, families, and staff to ensure every learner has the opportunity to thrive. Please feel free to reach out to me at denise.morris@fmpsd.ab.ca or 780-790-1100 with any questions or concerns.

Division Notice

ATA Strike Commencing on Monday; School Closures Starting Oct 6th

As a result of the Alberta Teachers Association (ATA) rejecting a proposed deal from the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA), all FMPSD schools will be closed to students starting Monday, October 6, 2025, unless a new agreement is reached or strike action is otherwise averted. Additionally, all yellow school bus routes will be suspended for the duration of the strike.

In light of the ongoing strike, all extracurricular activities, including sports, clubs, and after-school programs, will be temporarily suspended.

As there is no definitive end date for the strike, FMPSD is unable to provide a timeline for when normal operations will resume. We will continue to provide timely updates as we receive them from the Ministry of Education and Child Care.
