My name is Sage Mitchell and I am so excited to be back this year at McTavish as the Indigenous Student Services Cultural Teacher!
I am from Cowessess First Nation, but I was born and raised in Fort McMurray. I am also a former graduate of both Composite High School and Keyano College. I moved to Lethbridge to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance at the University of Lethbridge. During this time, I discovered my love and passion for teaching, which spurred me to apply for a secondary education degree. I applied to a unique program called the Niitsitapi Teacher Education Program at the University of Lethbridge. What made this Education program unique is that it focused on Indigenous knowledge and ways of knowing throughout the program and in the curriculum. I finished my Education degree in December 2019. This is my second year at McTavish and I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else!
